Men's Plain Waistcoat

Men's Plain Waistcoat

A man’s plain waistcoat is a piece of formal attire worn by men to special occasions, formal events and at times casual parties. These items of clothing have a vertical opening in the front from top to bottom. The opening is normally accompanied by buttons or snaps which is used to close it or allow one to fasten it. Waistcoats are not normally worn with belts but are worn with men’s braces in most occasions. Men’s plain waistcoats can be accompanied a dress shirt which is worn underneath it, a necktie and a coat worn on top of it. Furthermore, they can be worn with bowties, cravats and pocket squares and they come in two main types which are: Single breasted waistcoats and double breasted waistcoats. When choosing between the two bear in mind that single breasted waistcoats are more common and seen as acceptable in more occasions. Double breasted waistcoats are less common and more formal. Traditionally waistcoats were worn with pocket watches. This became fashionable and as such the pocket watch quickly became associated with waistcoats. The two go hand in hand, perhaps. These days’ waistcoats are worn less than in the past so such pocket watches may more often today be stored in trousers pockets.
